Cartomizers, Clearomizers & Tanks

Tanks, clearomizers, glassomizers, and cartomizers are devices that combine atomizers and e-juice reservoirs all in one unit. The majority of tanks offer replaceable atomizer heads, making it very cost-efficient to maintain your device. Vapor Authority offers a wide selection of cartomizers, clearomizers, and glass vape tanks from a wide range of brands, such as Kanger, Innokin, Aspire, Joyetech, SMOKtech, Uwell, Vaporesso, Horizon, and Sense. Available in a variety of colors, sizes, features, and options, Vapor Authority is sure to have the clearomizer, glassomizer, or tank that is perfect for you.

Clearomizer vs Glassomizers: Clearomizers and Glassomizers function in identical ways. That is, they both have e-liquid reservoirs, atomizer coils, and a mouthpiece in one single unit. This unit connects to the battery and will ultimately produce vapor when the coils heat up and vaporize the e-juice. The sole difference between clearomizers and glassomizers is that the tank portion of clearomizers is made with plastic, whereas that of glassomizers is made with Pyrex glass.

Pros and Cons of Clearomizers: Clearomizers have benefits and drawbacks. Clearomizers are lighter than glassomizers, as plastic weighs less than glass. Clearomizers are also resistant to breaking if dropped. The primary disadvantage of clearomizers is that they are prone to wear from the acid of e-liquids over time.

Pros and Cons of Glassomizers: The primary benefit of glassomizers is that they are completely resistant to wear caused by the acidity contained within certain e-liquids. E-juices, such as fruit flavored ones, contain a certain level of acidity that will erode the plastic portion of clearomizers over time. Glass tanks will never wear from the acidity of e-liquids, regardless of how long they are used. However, glassomizers can break if they are dropped and tend to be heavier than clearomizers. To minimize the possibility of breaking, many manufacturers design their glassomizers with some form of metal shell that surrounds the glass, thereby protecting it from potential falls.

Tank: The word “tank” is a general term that is used to encompass both clearomizers and glassomizers. The word "tank" is even sometimes rebuildable tank atomizers (RTA).

Sub-Ohm Tanks: Sub-ohm tanks are tanks that have been engineered to accommodate atomizer coils with a resistance below 1.0 ohms. The lower the resistance of an atomizer coil, the higher the wattage that can be used with it. This is beneficial, as it produces substantially more vapor than higher resistance atomizer coils that can manage lower power levels. Many sub-ohm tank models can only be used with sub-ohm atomizer coils, while others offer you an option of sub-ohm and standard resistance coils.

Airflow Control Valve: Many tanks are equipped with a component called an airflow control valve. This device is usually positioned at either the bottom or top of the tank. The valve is generally surrounded by a rotating ring that can be used to control the amount of air that is drawn in when taking a hit. This provides a way in which you can customize your hit, making it airier or tighter depending on your preference. Airflow control valves are also useful in eliminating flooding and gurgling when alternating between e-juice of varying PG-to-VG rations.

Top-Fill Tanks: Although the majority of tanks are bottom-fill devices, more and more manufacturers are releasing top-fill models. A traditional bottom-fill tank requires you to detach it from the battery, unscrew the base, fill the tank, then reassemble everything. Top-fill tanks, on the other hand, are either furnished with a filling slot or may require you to unscrew the cap in order to fill the tank, without the need to detach the tank from the battery. This makes refills more convenient, which is why most manufacturers are now switching to a top-fill system for their latest models.

Cartomizers: E-Cig cartomizers, such as Kanger Horizontal Coil Cartomizers, combine an atomizer coil with an e-liquid reservoir in one unit. However, unlike clearomizers, where the atomizer heads themselves contain filament to absorb the e-liquid, cartomizer tanks are stuffed with the material to absorb the e-liquid. The coils then run through the material, thereby vaporizing the e-liquid once heated. In addition, unlike clearomizers and glassomizer that are transparent allowing you to see the amount of e-liquid remaining in the tank, cartomizers are solid.
